Hi, I’m Caroline Tan.

I’m a Certified Sleep Sense Consultant and IPSP certified potty consultant with a background in early childhood education and scientific research. I support families through gentle, age appropriate sleep guidance that prioritize safe sleep and respects each family’s values.

As a mum of 2 who exclusively breastfed both children, I also understand the worries many breastfeeding mothers have about sleep and sleep training. From both personal and professional experience, I have learned that you do not need to choose between breastfeeding and better sleep, both are POSSIBLE.

How My Sleep Journey Started

When I was pregnant, my husband once shared how a colleague’s family life improved after working with a sleep consultant. My immediate reaction? “Don’t involve anyone with our baby!”

At that time, I honestly didn’t understand what sleep consultants did, and I was very doubtful about sleep training.

Then my son reached around 4 months old, and everything changed.

Bedtime became a 2–3 hour struggle filled with intense crying. His naps became short, he woke every two hours overnight, and only I could put him to sleep. We tried everything: rocking, nursing, pacifiers, patting, but nothing seemed to work. I still remember bouncing and rocking him back and forth until it felt like I was doing an aerobic workout, and honestly, it didn’t even feel safe anymore!

I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and surviving on very little sleep, desperately scrolling through Kindle books late at night, hoping to find something that could solve his sleep struggles. T.T

The Turning Point

Eventually, with no other options left, we decided to speak to a sleep consultant.

Sleep teaching was not an easy decision for us. It required trust, consistency, and commitment. But looking back now, I’m so thankful we took that step.

Today, bedtime and naps are peaceful and calm. My son is able to fall asleep independently and connect his sleep cycles confidently.

That experience completely changed how I viewed sleep and parenting. I realised sleep teaching is not just about sleep. It is deeply connected to emotional regulation, family well being, safety, and a child’s overall development.

Most importantly, it inspired me to become a certified sleep consultant so I could support other parents, especially first time parents, through the same struggles I once faced.

My Second Child Taught Me Something Different

When my second child was born, I thought things would be easier because I already had the knowledge and experience. And I had already started building healthy sleep foundations from day 1.

However, we soon discovered she had reflux, which made sleep much more challenging and paused my initial plan to teach her independent sleep skills when she was age appropriate.

Although she could sleep through the night by 10 weeks old, she still relied heavily on rocking to sleep. Around four months old, her naps became shorter and night wakings increased again.

I remember replying to parents’ messages and working while holding her in my arms for naps.

Eventually, I accepted that she simply needed more time and a gentler approach. I slowed down my work, supported her closely, and waited until her body was truly ready.

When the timing was right, I adjusted the sleep plan to suit her unique needs, and she mastered independent sleep skills beautifully within 2 weeks.

That journey gave me a much deeper understanding of how physical discomfort can affect sleep and how emotional and hesitant it can feel for parents when their child is not ready yet.
